THE WILD FIRE COLLECTION
The Wild Fire collection is an ongoing series of unique vessels created using the most archaic method of clay firing. Before the invention of kilns, all ceramics were fired for tens of thousands of years by digging a pit in the ground, stacking the clay objects in the center of it, and gradually building a fire until clay became durable enough for domestic or ritual use. Since an open fire does not generate as much heat as a closed kiln, nowadays ceramics fired in this ancient method are considered decorative.
The Wild Fire collection consists of sculptural earthenware vases fired without any colorants, using only wood, sheep wool, and naturally occurring ash in the process. This firing method is not only the most natural way to create ceramics, but also completely wild and unpredictable, so each piece acquires unique surface shades, patterns and marks.
Due to the unpredictable fire action, cracks are a common occurrence. Cracks (if any) in the vessels displayed on the page do not affect the durability of the vessels and, in an aesthetic sense, become authentic indicators of the natural process.
Each piece tells its own story about earth, fire, the origins of the ceramic craft, and the majesty of the forces of nature. Through their shapes, these vases weave visions of ancient goddess-birther archetypes and traces of the divine feminine in our subconscious as well as in contemporary artistic expressions.
